Jan. 8 Georgia BTA meets at 11:15 am in Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, Atlanta. Brad Seitz, president and CEO of Topaz Inc., will present "Hot Topics, Trends and Predictions for the Travel Industry in 2008." Jan. 8 North Central BTA will meet at 11 am in the Sheraton Minneapolis West, Minnetonka, featuring "Trends in Travel Technology" presented by Amy Vanderbilt. In this one-hour interactive presentation, Vanderbilt will walk participants though some of the major technologies affecting business travel today and what to expect over the coming years. Jan. 8 Oregon BTA will meet at 11:30 am in Portland for a presentation on "Oregon's Identity Theft Protection Act. It's good for your business." Diane Childs, Identity Theft Program Outreach Coordinator for the state of Oregon, will present materials for consumers and businesses to better understand their rights and responsibilities. Rusin is a 35-year travel industry veteran, NYSBTA board member and PAC liaison. Jan. 13 Rocky Mountain BTAmeets at 7:30 am in the Hyatt Regency Tech Center Denver, for a discussion on car rental taxes. Shane Downey, NBTA manager of government relations, presents "Get Into Politics or Get Out of Business." Downey will stress the importance of engaging local governments and elected officials; the latest business travel related developments in Washington, DC; and what you can do to be a positive influence in our government. Jan. 15 The Institute of Travel Management UK & Ireland (ITM) has altered the final session of its Focus Forum, entitled "ECO-nomics", to consider the synergies between cost reduction and emission reduction in light of the worsening economic situation. The session will start with thought-provoking presentations by Mark Avery, head of business services from PwC and past ITM chairman; and Lynn Basford from the Centre for Transport Psychology. The session change builds on an already dynamic line up of speakers from companies such as BA, the Aviation Environment Federation, Cranfield University, OGC and WWF - UK. Each of the participant companies is a Project ICARUS contributor.

Thredgold will lead a slightly irreverent, up-to-the minute "tour" of the economy, financial markets, education, government, and a sneak preview of the future. He has appeared on CNBC, CNN, and is quoted regularly in the nation's financial press. Thredgold is a monthly contributor to the national publication, Blue Chip Financial Forecasts, and quarterly USA TODAY economic forecast surveys. Lau will discuss what is new and what is coming up in the Bay Area airports in 2009. In this ever-changing arena of airport security, it is important to understand what to expect, what processes are becoming more efficient, and the new technology or procedures might be available in the new year.
